Advanced Periodontal Treatments - What Technicians Should Know

Credentialed Veterinary Technicians and VTS Mentees Only

Periodontal disease can vary from patient to patient, and treatment choices differ depending on the owner’s compliance with at-home care. The importance of a thorough oral exam and recognizing subtle oral pathology is key in assisting the veterinarian when deciding treatment options. Understanding these treatment choices and their impact can help the Technician communicate with pet owners. This lecture will discuss different treatment options such as open vs. closed root planing, perioceuticals, guided tissue regeneration, and bone augmentation. We will also cover the materials and instruments used in different periodontal treatments.
