This will be a four-hour dental radiology wet lab focusing on capturing diagnostic images with dogs and cats. There will be a ½ hour lecture portion focusing on terminology and safety. You will have the opportunity to use both sensor and phosphorus plate technology. The goal is to capture diagnostic images with fewer retakes, reducing the amount of radiation exposure for all staff members. The importance of machine maintenance and cleaning procedures will be reviewed.

We have partnered with Dan Boruta, DVM, DACVAA to offer a full day of education and training in veterinary anesthesia focused on the unique challenges of veterinary dentistry. Dr. Boruta is a board-certified veterinary anesthesiologist that has spent the last decade working in both academic and private practice settings. He provides anesthesia services at veterinary practices in eastern North Carolina and South Carolina.

This educational experience is designed for veterinary technicians because veterinary anesthesia for the dental patient is a team sport. We will cover the following topics:

  • Dental Nerve Blocks (wet lab portion)
  • Breed Specific Problems in Anesthesia
  • Update on Brachycephalic Anesthesia
  • Use of CRIs and partial IV anesthesia
  • Use of mechanical ventilation
  • Capnography
  • Clinical pearls
  • Alfaxolone vs Propofol
  • Use of checklists for increased patient safety

This class will begin with a lecture covering the importance of proper cleaning techniques, probing and charting. A wet lab will follow, providing detailed, hands-on instruction on the proper way to do complete dental prophylaxis and oral examination, including accurate charting and proper handling of instruments. Each attendee will receive individual instruction while probing, cleaning, and charting.
